FLDR has a lot of terrific volunteers. Carol Dower, who worked in rescue in Osceola County for decades, is one of them. She was a constant, tireless voice for the animals, when they didn't have one. Her kind heart and soul inspired so many of us, FLDR was blessed to have her on "our team". Carol crossed the bridge in February 2011,joining 1000s of lives she made better at some point. We love you Carol, we miss you, the dogs miss you.
In honor of Carol, we are featuring dogs that would have been "Carol Dogs". Ones she would have saved and worked tirelessly to rehabilitate and place in forever homes, knowing some of them might wind up as permanent fosters. Most of these dogs have been in our care for quite a while, or we expect them to be in long-term foster care. While in care, FLDR covers all the expenses of these dogs. Please consider opening your heart and making a small donation of $25 to help sponsor the care for these pups. Simply click the paypal button by the dog of your choice and your donation will be designated for their care, and we will email you with updates on their progress.
Thank you so much for helping us continue her legacy, and honor her memory!

Meet Randy, our newest Carol's Corner pup. Randy is a two year old male poodle mix, who arrived at Animal Control on January 9th after being hit by a car. His back right leg was shattered. The vets at animal control didn't know if it was repairable, but they wanted us to please try and help him. After he waited out his "stray time", one of our volunteers went and picked him up right away and rushed him to the vet. Sadly, his leg was damaged beyond repair, and he needed surgery to remove it. He is now missing a leg, but also missing the pain he suffered for ten long days. He is a sweet boy, and is starting to learn to walk and function again. His surgery was expensive, and he has some follow up care to go. Please consider a donation to help us with his care! Together, we can give him the life he truly deserves! |

Day One: We would like to introduce you to Fabio, a 2 year old boston/shih tzu mix. To say he is in rough shape is an understatement...he is actually in such bad shape another rescue picked him up, and then took him BACK to animal control! Our Intake Coordinator couldn't get past his pleading eyes, and knew we had to at least TRY and help him. Thanks to his Angel Korrie, he is in the hospital now, and will... be for at least a week. He has mange all over, open sore, a yeast infection, a bacterial infection and that is just the beginning. He also has a kind spirit, and a hope that he will one day feel better. He will lay his smelly head in your palm, and give you kisses. He will wag his tail at a kind word. His care will be expensive, but he pawmises he is worth it (and Faith agreed!). Please consider a donation to his care and watch along with us as he transforms back into a handsome, healthy pup!

What a difference a week can make!! Fabio: Day 8. He is settling into therapeutic foster care, with a TON of meds, and a TON of TLC. His skin is becoming less itchy, and his sores are scabbing. All good signs. He is starting to wag his tail...a lot. He is friendly to everyone, and truly appreciative of every pet, every morsel of food, every kind word. Foster mom Dana tells him how many people he has pulling for him and in his corner! The updates will continue, as he wants everyone to watch his journey!
Friends of Fabio!
We would like to thank the Friends of Fabio for their generous donations towards his medical expenses and care. He would not be healing and recovering without their support!

Meet Wink! Wink is a four month old poodle puppy that was born in a puppy mill. Wink was rescued by Animal Control when she was just days old. Once she arrived at Animal Control, they knew right away she would need rescue, as Wink was born with just one eye:(
Wink has settled into an FLDR foster home and is thriving. She has seen our vets at regular intervals and they have told us she needs surgery to remove the tiny amount of eye tissue that is there, and to sew the area closed. This surgery will prevent her from getting recurrent infections, and other long term concerns, such as dry eye in the socket.
This surgery is costly, but we think Wink is worth every penny! Please donate and help Wink continue to thrive!

Without the WONDERFUL doctors, techs and staff at West Orange Veterinary Hospital, FLDR would not be able to save the dogs we do. When we call to say we need to bring emergency dogs, like Faith, Tabby, Geoffrey and others, Dr. Nadler and Dr. Fink always rearrange their schedule, skip lunch, whatever is needed to care for the pups ! Their team is waiting for us as soon as we walk through the door, and even though the dogs are smelly and filthy, everyone meets them with a hug, a pet, a smile. They are all excited to get kisses from them, and as we have call for updates, they gush over how they are doing. We can't gush over them enough either!
